"Contains My Story" - 2020
24"h x 24"w Medium: mixed media on canvas $875 unframed I selected my favourite portion of abstract artist, Karen Mackay's painting and incorporated a few mixed media paper techniques to emulate Karen's addition of calligraphic line work and additional levels of transparency. Vessels contain. My vessel holds words on paper that have no particular language. Make these words your own! These contain MY story. "I do not replicate nature. I am inspired by the improvisation of my environment."

Through bold marks and a feel for colour working in layers, Ottawa artist Catherine Gutsche uses a process driven method to capture her joy for the unpredictability of her practice. She creates intricate non-representational compositions, often alluding to forms in nature but highly abstracted, driven by a need to “engage my mind and express my connections to my environment”.
The 7 Works Collective challenges have stretched my usual approach into new areas, experimenting with new techniques, new materials and altered styles. Who knows what will come out of these exercises in the future. "Play" makes artists grow.
