Challenge Eleven

Picture
Mosaic Artist Kathryn Spooner Bossy continues the project with Challenge number Eleven.

"Timeline", 8”h x 6”w, using Japanese & Thai paper, vintage china, smalti, mirror tile, beads, stained glass, handpainted ceramic tile, seaglass and driftwood

Been thinking about time lately.

Time well spent. Time wasted. Procrastination.  Working flat out to meet a deadline. The waiting I’ve done between doctor appointments - time and fear don’t make a good marriage. The decisions I’ve made because of all the time we have being isolated. The time I wish I had to spend with people I miss.

I would like to speak about time with this prompt. But as a self portrait. Can be an historical piece - however you see yourself with relation to time.

Me Myself and I"
20"h x 16"w, silk fiber drawing/fusion

Dual anticipation that beyond Covid, once again I will be able to travel to large urban areas to enjoy the rich cultural experiences and that I will be able to travel to remote and isolated destinations where my soul can breathe.

"Time"
8"h x 8"w, pigment inks on cotton rag paper
(NFS)

Memories, experiences both reveal and bury my identity.

"Self Portrait over time"
7"h x 9"w, acrylic, pencil, collage
(NFS)

This painting is about my life and interests which remain fluid and are constantly evolving.

"Memory"
24"h x 40"w, cold wax & oils on wood panel

My piece is more of a step to the side when it comes to "self portrait". It is an observation of time and the existence of memories as I observe the loss of memories in my mom's decline from Alzheimer's and my fears about heredity and how this may apply to myself in the future.

"Masks and Party Dresses"
40"h x 30"w, acrylic on canvas
SOLD

This piece is time and me all in one! Time spent during COVID missing my friends and family, art groups, art shows, coffee dates, dinner dates and time to have fun.  Fear that has been “masked” in order to reassure and be positive so as to keep spirits up for family, friends, strangers and for me. I have had my days that have been hard and have been glad for the “mask” I use it and as I get stronger I dispose of it. My “party dress" waits patiently for me to put it on and dance with my granddaughter Isla - she can now walk and run- I have not been able to see that progress, I want to be able to see her dance for the first time with me in our party dresses after our tea party of course :)

"Spooled"
51"h x 13"w, collage linen wrapped on a wooden spool

The linen is collaged with a images of favourite places and memories in my life. The moments have shaped me, making me thoughtful of how we each build relationships and our place in the world with moments in time that we cherish.
