Kathryn Spooner Bossy
Congratulations to Kathryn Spooner Bossy for the sale of her response to our Water Challenge. "Sunday on Lake Ontario"
6”h x 24”w x 1.5”d, stained glass and mirror mosaic
SOLD

I have lived my entire life by water. In the water and on the water. I feel joy in the lofting of a jib and the sound of the boat slicing through the waves.
Recently I was standing on shore, mesmerized by the high traffic of sailboats on Lake Ontario. The sun sparkling on the water of many shades of blue. Can you feel the breeze?

Celebrating Canadian Creativity: Meet Four Artists Forging New Forms in the Art World
Jean Paul Riopelle may be best known for his colourful mosaics, but he wasn’t afraid to experiment with many different art styles and techniques throughout his storied career. Following his creative intuition is ultimately what led Riopelle to become one of the most important and influential Canadian artists of the 20th century...
We celebrate one of our members, Kathryn Spooner Bossy, as one of the selected artists for this project. Read the article.

ABOUT CONTINUUM
The 2018 Artscape Gibraltar Point Residency accepted 2 artists for a week of immersive art. 2019 they traveled to Toronto Island with 3 more artists from various art disciplines. 2020 the world changed. 7 artists postponed the island residency. When plans were upended these determined artists committed themselves to finding inspiration via Zoom to see/talk about what they had done during their at-home residency week. A plan was then hatched to challenge each other biweekly. Each artist showed art in their medium; the remaining 6 responded in their voice with a piece in their medium, or an experimental medium outside their style, inspired by the prompt. It wasn’t long before we became the 7 Works Collective. The excitement during lock downs was to listen to each artist describe their process/thinking behind the work from the challenge, including showing preliminary sketches / experiments. As we are not all painters, we learned about other mediums, which was a big feature of our Zoom discussions. 7 Works Collective is paint, embroidery, mosaic, fibre and lens based art. The upending of our residency became the possibilities of creativity in a continuum.

The 7 Works Collective were excited to be interviewed and featured in "The Review" on August 1, 2022 announcing the start of the Collective's first group show at the Arbor Gallery in Vankleek Hill. It was a thrill to see all the work together especially since it was the very first time some of the group had seen the work done by the others outside of viewing it on a Zoom screen.
