Challenge Twelve

Picture
Abstract Artist Lynn Dubinsky continues the project with Challenge number Twelve.

Lynn challenges the group on Challenge number Twelve to create a work that depicts something that brings each of us "ass kicking joy". As the COVID pandemic continues with a tiny view of light at the end of the tunnel having a vaccine on its way our thoughts may be turning in a more positive direction bring back to us a certain joy that we've been missing.

Lynn says, "Many things bring joy to my life such as nature, dogs, humour, exercise, fashion. I have combine all of this in this painting".

"Joy", 48"h x 24"w, acrylic on canvas, SOLD

"joyful"
12"h x 18"w, (print only; signed), photography
$250

The various layers include images that either evoke or celebrate joy. The more muted pastel colours speak to the way that joy often enters our lives quietly and leaves a serene presence in its path.

"Trillium Joy"
24”x12” mixed media mosaic using glass, teacups beads and grout
SOLD

Watching spring unfold before our eyes is comforting, reliable and brings so much joy. The lush greens of unfurling ferns is amazing! A walk through the woods reveals trilliums in all of their splendour - nature’s eye candy comes in so many shapes and sizes. This mosaic is my tribute to the beauty and wonder of the reliability of spring.

"Safe Harbour"
24"h x 18"w cold wax & oils
$700

What brings me great joy I have recently discovered is great architecture. During our times of staying home I get a tingle when I surf the web and see awesome buildings and great living spaces. My piece talks about structures, as seen from above, and how they surround us with an element of safety; a cocoon; an embrace. The creativity of habitat brings me enjoyment and comfort.

"Kick Ass Joy” what a prompt! Lynn Dubinsky’s challenge got me thinking…
Painting, writing, sketching and mark making for me are just that Joy! So quite simply here it is: Joy

"Joy"
24"h x 6"w each,  fabric collage
$600, unframed with wrapped linen

I am blessed to have much joy in my life. As an adolescent I loved to skate, usually on my own at the local outdoor rink. It was so joyful. The magenta in this piece is a favourite skating top that my mum had made. I thought I was fabulous, spinning around the rink, fast and full of fun.

"Anticipation"
20"h x 16"w, silk fiber drawing/fusion
$424

Dual anticipation that beyond Covid, once again I will be able to travel to large urban areas to enjoy the rich cultural experiences and that I will be able to travel to remote and isolated destinations where my soul can breathe.
