The Art Works! Perth organization was founded as a way for local artists to connect with and support each other, and to provide ways to display their art to the world. Perth is a heritage town in a beautiful and varied area, and as such attracts a large number of visitors to enjoy the local lakes, the countryside, the cuisine and the many cultural events for which Perth is famous. Undyed woolen fiber comes in many shades of ivory, beige, brown and black. The coarseness of fiber varies greatly as does the length. When working the fiber with soap and water, the fibers tighten and shrink at different rates and produce smooth or bumpy or hairy surfaces. I have been playing with mixtures of fibers, using various thickness and letting the different shrinkage rates create interesting topology. Jo-ann Zorzi is really enjoying the subtle and the not so subtle contrasts in color and in texture. She is looking forward to sourcing fiber from a broader range of breeds and continuing on this adventure.
